Lifeguard for the Lifeguards
Hilton Brown Swimming (HBS) are used to providing families with the kind of lessons that could save children's lives, but when it came to their IT infrastructure, they realised there was a lot at risk.
HBS had replicated their IT infrastructure at each of their 7 locations throughout New Zealand. This resulted in high, and duplicated, support costs across each pool with limited access to required reporting. On top of this HBS were also carrying the risks associated with environmental factors, physical, system and power security, and the risk of their system going down centrally.
HBS came to base 2 because of their experience in dealing with IT requirements across multiple locations.
Following an analysis of HBS's requirements, base 2 Managing Director Greg Sharp recommended a Hosted Infrastructure (HI) solution, centralising their infrastructure and securely housing it in the controlled environment of the secure base 2 data centre.
The outcome
- The cost benefits were immediate with a 50% reduction in the cost of ownership as well as a 90% reduction in business risk due to accidental damage or loss of data.
- The controlled environment of the base 2 data centre meant HBS's technology investment was given the best possible protection.
- Because base 2's system architects worked with HBS to understand their business needs, they didn't have to try and fit their requirements around an off the shelf solution.
- All HBS locations now have access to required reporting with significantly reduced support issues and their associated costs.

Base 2 is currently working with a range of businesses from SME's through to larger businesses with as many as 650 users. Our clients span multiple industries and work either from a single or multiple locations.

Making strategic changes to our IT systems seemed fairly daunting. We knew it needed to be done but didn't quite know where to start. The team at base 2 was great - they really worked with us to understand our objectives - now we have all our data centrally located which helps us control our system, produce all the reports we need to, and retrieve our data effi ciently. We've cut the cost of our IT ownership by half, seen a dramatic reduction in repeated support incidents and related costs, and our system uptime is currently sitting at 99.9%.
